The most powerful mechanism of creative action
is not discipline. It's connection
.

The fastest and easiest way to become a prolific writer (and in doing so, a better writer) is to surround yourself with people who are committed to writing.

In its simplest form, The Writing Habit is simply this:

context of connection that inspires creative action.

How it works

Structure and constraints are the foundation of creative freedom.
This container includes the following structures...

01

Live Group Calls

(Zoom, Thursdays 7-8:30 pm PST)

These calls will include creative check-ins, guided writing practices and opportunities to share writing in real-time. They're super fun!

03

C0-Writing Sessions

(Zoom: Tues/Thurs 7:30-8:30 am PST, Weds 6-7 pm PST)

These are opportunities to benefit from the groups creative field. We'll briefly share intentions and then write quietly together.

02

Share Your Work and Connect on Slack

Slack is a community connection platform where we will connect, share our work, cheer each other on, get inspired. (Don't worry if you've never used Slack before - it's easy!)

04

Daily Dose of Inspiration
Delivered to Your Inbox

Each day, you'll receive a brief email from me with concise guidance to support creative unleashing and efficient habit formation.

A Closer Look...
The Writing Habit is a Scenius

Coined by musician and producer Brian Eno, the term "scenius" is similar to "genius" except that it is embedded into a scene of many people rather than the genes of a single person.

A scenius is defined by...

Mutual Appreciation

Creative pursuits and risk taking is supported and celebrated by the collective

Rapid Exchange of Ideas

Discoveries are showcased, tools and techniques are shared

Success is Contagious

When one person achieves something, everyone celebrates it as a success of the scene

Tolerance for the New

Non-conformity and experimentation is encouraged and protected from the "outside" world

About Me

Hi! I'm Albert.

For years I thought I was just not disciplined enough...

Seduced by the cultural championing of the "lone wolf," I thought I ought to be able to do the damn thing on my own, without help or aid. So ensued years of banging my head against the wall wondering why I wasn't making progress on my grand creative visions, and lots of time spent feeling creatively stuck.

It took a long time to shift my view and entertain the possibility that maybe, just maybe, there was another way.

Eventually, I had an insight that is so simple it's often missed: it's all about connection. When human beings feel genuinely connected to themselves, to each other, and to the earth, there is a natural release of creative energy.

That's why I created The Writing Habit. While it includes carefully curated strategic content to support efficiency and practical progress, at the core it's really about connection - coming together to create, to share, and to express our true nature. In doing so we become more ourselves, more aligned, more human.

The more tangible details about my me-ness: I'm a practicing freelance artist and writer. I've released seven children's books with two different publishing houses, both as a writer and illustrator; I actively write on Substack; I have been designing websites for Shambhala Publications for five years. I'm passionate about discovering and expressing my true nature and helping others do the same.

I've had an (almost) daily writing practice for over a decade and have found it an indispensable ally to my creative work.

Frequently Asked Questions

I'm not really a "writer"...can I still join?

YES! This is a place for "writers" to become WRITERS, if you catch my drift. By writing daily, you are casting a vote for who you want to become, and by the end, you may realize that you are a writer after all!

I can't make it to all the live calls. Is that okay?

You're encouraged to make it to as many of the Creative Connection calls as possible, but it is totally okay to miss them if you need to. They will be recorded and shared within 24 hours of the call.

The co-writing sessions are optional but encouraged!

What will happen during the lives calls?

The Creative Connection Calls are all about connection. We'll do a lot of writing, we'll share writing in real time, and we'll have opportunities to check in with each other about our respective creative processes.

The Co-Writing Calls are a space to write independently with the mutual support and inspiration of each other. They will include a brief intention setting at the beginning, optional prompts, and a brief check out at the end.

What the heck is Slack?

Slack is a cloud-based instant messaging system that is great for connecting and sharing work in a private container. Don't worry -- there will be a short tutorial on how to use it during the first live call!

How much time will I have to spend on this each week?

Our goal together will be to set aside at least 20 minutes per day for writing, plus a 90-minute call each week. But it's really up to you how much you do!
